Why Research?

The environmental and technological challenges facing society demand new ways of thinking. The Curiosity Project provides a real-world setting where ideas can be explored, tested and refined through practical action.

Current Areas of Research

Citizen Science

Our learners contribute to genuine biodiversity monitoring through projects such as moth recording and species identification. We currently use iNaturalist to share observations, allowing local discoveries to contribute to national and international biodiversity records. As the project develops, monitoring will expand to include freshwater ecology, plants, pollinators and seasonal change.

Sustainable Systems

We investigate practical approaches to renewable energy, rainwater harvesting, low-impact sanitation and resource management, using the site as a place to design, build and evaluate real solutions.

Artificial Intelligence and Ethics

Artificial intelligence has enormous potential to support scientific research, environmental monitoring and education. At the same time, it raises important questions about energy use, environmental impact, bias and human decision-making.

Rather than avoiding these tensions, we encourage learners to investigate them. We explore how AI can be used thoughtfully and responsibly alongside human curiosity, critical thinking and environmental stewardship.

Future Partnerships

We are keen to work with schools, universities, environmental organisations, businesses and research institutions to develop projects with genuine educational and environmental value. Inspiration comes from organisations working at the forefront of science and innovation, alongside those protecting and restoring the natural world.
